From humble beginnings to a national movement for change

2018 - Foundation

The National Unity Party was founded as an organization anchored on the principle that party leaders come and go after serving their full term but the party remains. The founding fathers adopted a revolutionary resolution that none of them would vie for leadership positions.

2018-2020 - People's Manifesto Development

For two years, the party conducted nationwide consultations with ordinary Gambians and subject matter specialists to develop "The People's Manifesto" - a comprehensive development blueprint for The Gambia.

September 2021 - Unveiling of Standard Bearer

Abdoulie Ebrima Jammeh was unveiled as the Presidential Candidate at the Sir Dawda Jawara International Conference Centre. His extensive public service experience and vision captured the nation's imagination.

December 2021 - Presidential Elections

NUP participated in the presidential elections, building a foundation for future growth and establishing presence across all regions of The Gambia.

2023 - Reorganization

The party underwent structural reorganization, strengthening regional committees and preparing for future elections with renewed vision.

October 2025 - New Leadership

Dr. Lamin J. Darbo appointed as Party Leader, Secretary General and Standard Bearer, bringing new energy and strategic direction to the party.

No Party Leader shall serve more than two terms - whether in government or opposition. This ensures leadership renewal, accountability, and sustained innovation.

Our founding principle is rooted in building a merit-based government driven by national interest, not party affiliation or political patronage.
